Timeless Interiors Part One | Interview with Tiffany Duggan

We asked four friends of The Room Service to nominate an interior from any age that they would define as "timeless" – and to tell us what they would love from The Room Service collection for their own spaces in 2019.

First, we talked to interior designer Tiffany Duggan, Director of Studio Duggan.

Tell us about your favourite  timeless interior, and why do you love it so much?

When it comes to timeless interiors, I immediately thought of Carolina Irving's supremely stylish apartment in Paris. It is one of my all time favourites and is an absolute masterclass in the art of layering. It is a look which appears to have evolved over time, a heart-felt collection of textiles, furniture and artwork which tell the story of the owner in a riot of colour and pattern.

By mixing periods and styles in a way that feels cohesive and considered yet totally relaxed, the space feels personal without looking overly staged. Ruffled skirts, chintz, mudcloth, ikat, antiques, ceramics and objetare all thrown together into an effortlessly bohemian and colourful melting pot, which is then expertly grounded by the classical features of the room, the oversized muted artwork and huge striped flat weave rug. By choosing to mix and match pieces from different eras and origins, Carolina has created her own style and look which transcends passing trends.

Which timeless piece would you select from The Room Service's collection, and why?

I love the earthy tones of the Irish linen tablecloth and napkins – especially the moss green and oatmeal shades. Good quality, soft, strong Irish linen will never go out of style and will get better over time. These are timeless pieces which can be used separately or together to ensure the table is perfectly dressed for all occasions.
